Chana Dal (Split Chickpea Lentils)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chana lentils
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 green chili
  • 3 tomatoes

Spices

  • 1/2 tsp mango powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp degi red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • pinch of hing

Steps

  1. Soak chana for 1 hour
  2. Pressure cook the lentils with 5 cups of water for 10 minutes and release pressure naturally
  3. Grind tomatoes, garlic and chili in a blender
  4. Heat up a pan and add cumin seeds, dry roast
  5. Add tomato paste and the remaining spices and cool on a slow flame for 5 minutes
  6. Add lentils and some of the water from the lentils to desired consistency
  7. Bring to a boil, and then lower to a simmer for 10-12 minutes
  8. Top with cilantro
Enjoy with rice
