Chana Dal (Split Chickpea Lentils)
Ingredients
- 1 cup chana lentils
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 green chili
- 3 tomatoes
Spices
- 1/2 tsp mango powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp degi red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- pinch of hing
Steps
- Soak chana for 1 hour
- Pressure cook the lentils with 5 cups of water for 10 minutes and release pressure naturally
- Grind tomatoes, garlic and chili in a blender
- Heat up a pan and add cumin seeds, dry roast
- Add tomato paste and the remaining spices and cool on a slow flame for 5 minutes
- Add lentils and some of the water from the lentils to desired consistency
- Bring to a boil, and then lower to a simmer for 10-12 minutes
- Top with cilantro
Enjoy with rice
