Moong Dal Curry

Moong Lentils

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup moong lentils
  • 2 cups water
Steps
  1. Rinse lentils and add to the pressure cooker with water
  2. Pressure cook for 5 minutes


Moong Dal Curry

Ingredients

  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 green chili
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • Moong Lentils (from above)

Spices

  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 pinch asafetida
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp mango powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tsp crushed dry fenugreek leaves (you can use fresh if you have them)

Steps

  1. Grind the tomatoes, green chili, and garlic in a blender
  2. Heat up a pan and add the cumin seeds for about 30-60 seconds.  It’ll slightly change color
  3. Add the tomato paste mixture
  4. Add the spices and lower to a slow flame, cook for 4 or 5 minutes
  5. Add the lentils with liquid
  6. Add more water as needed to get the right consistency (usually about 1 or 2 cups)
  7. Cook for another 1 or 2 minutes
