Simple Khichdi

Ingredients


  • 1 cup chana dal (split chickpea lentil) - wash
  • 1 cup rice - wash
  • 1.5 cup chopped potatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 small ginger minced
  • 5 cups water

Spices


  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 3 tsp Curry Powder (swap this with chana masala if you can find it)
  • 4 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mango powder (tangy flavor, optional)

Steps


  1. heat up a pressure cooker on sauté, and toast cumin seeds
  2. add ginger and garlic, and a little water and water sauté them.
  3. add potatoes, stir it up and continue to water sauté for a minute
  4. add lentils, rice, and spices - stir completely
  5. add water and stir completely
  6. pressure cook for 20 minutes (or boil til soft)

enjoy (optionally top with cilantro)
