Ingredients
- 1/4 cup red (or pink) lentils
- 1/4 cup split green lentils (moong dal)
- 1/2 cup dry rice
- 5 cups water - Note - this should be a 5 to 1 ratio for water vs the combination of lentils and rice
- 2 tomatoes
- 4-5 garlic cloves
Spices
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Steps
- wash the rice and lentils
- Make indian tomato gravy
- blend tomatoes and garlic into a tomato paste
- heat up the pressure cooker, and add cumin seeds - allow to dry roast, start to pop and brown
- add tomato paste, and stir up allowing to cook a little
- add spices (note, no mango powder, hing, or curry powder in this recipe), and cook down until the tomatoes reach a tomato paste consistency
- once the gravy is cooked down, add lentils, rice, and water to the pressure cooker, and mix up
- pressure cook until the lentils and rice are fully cooked (about 20 minutes of full pressure)
