Dosa batter

Ingredients


  • 2 cups rice
  • 1/2 cup urad white lentil (gram lentil)
  • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 5 cups of water

Steps


  1. add ingredients into a rice cooker.  soak for 5 hours
  2. strain out the water
  3. put the ingredients into a blender (or any other grinder) to make a paste out of it (the rice, lentils, fenugreek, etc).  You can do it in batches.  See video for needed consistency, add a little water if needed to reach consistency
  4. put the batter in a warm place for 12-14 hours (this will allow it to ferment)

From here you have a soup like consistency (not quite yogurt thickness, closer to pancake batter).  This is used in several other recipes to come.
