Ingredients
- 1/2 cup porridge (daliya)
- 2 cups of water (plus a few more tbsp for water sautéing)
- 1/2 cup pink lentils
- 2 small carrots (diced)
- 2 small tomatoes (diced)
- 1/2 cup peas
- 5 garlic cloves (grind up with ginger to make a paste)
- 2 small pieces of ginger
- cilantro
Spices
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp coriander
- 1 small pinch hing
- pinch of garlic herb
- a little cracked black pepper
Steps
- dry roast porridge for 2 or 3 minutes, stirring it around so that it doesn’t burn. It will start to have a fragrance, and very slightly changes color
- To the pressure cooker - add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and toast them dry for 15-30 seconds
- add tomatoes and stir, adding a few tbsp of water as needed to water sauté them. Add spices and cook them down for 2-3 minutes
- add ginger and garlic paste, peas, carrots, stir them all up cook for a minute or 2
- add porridge and pink lentils, stir it up
- add 2 cups of water
- Pressure cook, the timing is different, but you need to cook until the porridge is done. Should be about 20 minutes
- add chopped cilantro, black pepper, and garlic herb to taste
