Aloo Mutter (Potato and Peas Curry)

Ingredients


  • 3 medium potatoes (diced)
  • 1 cup fresh peas
  • onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 small piece of ginger
  • 1 green chili
  • 4 tomatoes (blend in blender)

Spices


  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp mango powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp red chili
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro to top

Steps


  1. add 1/4 tsp of cumin seeds to pressure cooker that has heated up a little.  let them brown for 30 seconds or so
  2. add chopped onions water saute them for a few minutes (they should brown a little, and should start to look translucent)
  3. add ginger, garlic, and green chili.  Add a little water and cook for 1 minute
  4. add blended tomatoes to the mix
  5. add spices, and cook them down until the tomatoes the consistency of a tomato paste
  6. add potatoes, peas.  Cook, keep mixing every 30-40 seconds until the potatoes have lost most of their extra water (do not add water here).  Should take 3-4 minutes
  7. add 1/2 liter of water (about 2 cups), and stir it
  8. now pressure cook it for a few minutes to finish off the potatoes and peas
  9. add cilantro to the top
